Who's behind the Camera?
That would be Heike - a transplant from Germany, who never had to spell her name back home. So, how do you pronounce HEIKE: 'Hi-Kuh'.
I was born with a camera in my hand. Well, maybe not quite. But definitely with one in my face. This whole photography thing is all my Dad's fault. He is a passionate hobby photographer and was the first one to introduce me to this Art. He showed me tricks and skills of traditional photography.
I continue to add to that knowledge through constant education. In 2018, I earned my national certification as a professional photographer (CPP) through the PPA, the organization for about 32,000 professional photographers in America. Currently, only about 3000 photographers hold the CPP degree; I am the only one in the WI Rapids, Nekoosa, Port Edwards area. This certification shows that other successful professional photographers approve of the consistent quality of my work and that my work is up to standards used in professional photography worldwide. In order to keep this certification active, it needs to be renewed every 3 years. I attend national conventions and weeklong photography classes to earn my renewal credits. There's always something new to learn and a better way of doing things.
My business has developed into a true family business over the years. Simon was my VALS (Voice Activated Light Stand) for many years before he became my second photographer at events, and eventually even became a main photographer. He is now branching out on his own and has specialized in car photography. Being a 'car guy', this is perfect for him. Our next 2 children, Seth and Ayanda, who started just like Simon did are also starting to find their own niche. This at this time, leaves me with our youngest, Josiah who loves the fact that as a young teen he's already taller than me and shows it off any chance he can get. I tend to use his height and strength to my (well, actually my clients') advantage. My husband, Danny is always there to help in any way he can - rounding up wedding guests for photos, manning the sales table at athletic Team & Individual events, carrying the heavy stuff, bodyguard, and now is also starting with quite a bit of behind-the-camera learning.
For many years, I was a Photographer and Digital Retouch Artist with the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Foundation, an organization that provides remembrance photography to parents suffering the loss of a baby, offering a free gift of professional portraiture. There are currently some other charity avenues I am looking at - the wheels are turning!
My main mission as a professional portrait artist is to make you look great in your portraits. I believe that everyone can love their photos but it is up to the skills of the photographer (and the cooperation of the client) to make that happen.
What can we do for you?
Obviously, we can 'take your picture'. But we pride ourselves in so much more. I like to say that 'we MAKE your portrait'.
I will meet with you, preferably in person. We will discuss what your expectation / wish / hope is for your final product. I will guide you with location, clothing, make-up suggestions. After your session, I will be happy to assist you in choosing the best photographs and display options for your place and purpose.
Some of these processes can take a bit of time, especially for weddings, and for family portraits. Your business 'headshot' on the other hand is most likely delivered to you within a day.
